Join Caroline Welch, attorney, CEO of the Mindsight Institute, and author of The Gift of Presence: A Mindfulness Guide for Women (Penguin Random House 2020), together with Dr. Adriana Copeland, psychotherapist, UCLA certified mindfulness teacher, and certified forest bathing therapy guide, for a week-long journey of self-discovery and immersion in nature. Located within the privacy of the fortified walls of a medieval French castle, in a small group setting (limited to 20 women), just two hours south of Paris by train, you will experience a safe haven for inspiration, stress reduction, and renewal. Discover the timeless healing wisdom of living in attunement with our natural world and become your most resilient self.

    Our week together will feature:

    • Forest Bathing in the ancient grounds of Castle Marouatte
    • Daily lectures with Q & A and group discussion
    • Indoor and outdoor meditation (weather permitting)
    • Private time for reflection and journaling
    • Local farm-to-table cuisine and wines
    • Two afternoons of excursions:

    What is Forest Bathing?

The term shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing”) emerged in Japan in the 1980s as a body and mind practice which connects us with nature as we slow down and take in the atmosphere of the forest with all of our senses. The purpose was to offer an ecofriendly antidote to burnout and to inspire people to reconnect with and protect the country’s forests. While Japan is credited with the term Forest Bathing, many cultures have long recognized the importance of the natural world to human health. In the 1990s, researchers began studying the physiological benefits of Forest Bathing and science now confirms, as you might have suspected, time spent immersed in nature is good for us.

      ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE CASTLE

Due to the fact that you will be staying in a twelfth-century castle, it is important to know that rooms were not created equal and each of the rooms offer its own unique character and decor. There are ten bedrooms with private bathrooms located on the ground, first, and second floors. There are additional rooms with shared bathrooms. Some rooms have king or queen beds suitable for individuals or couples. Others have two beds suitable for double occupancy. Finally, for those wondering, we regret to inform you that the dungeon has not been used since 1273 and it is not available for this retreat.

Smoking is not permitted in any accommodations, meeting rooms, or other indoor spaces.

Prices vary depending on whether you choose single, couple, or double occupancy. Early reservations are recommended since the group size is limited to just 20 persons. We strongly recommend that you act promptly to provide your room preference to us at calminthecastle@gmail.com so that we may accommodate your preferred room type to the greatest extent possible.

      CANCELLATION POLICY

If your plans change and you need to cancel, and we can fill your spot, we will promptly issue a 100% refund. If we cannot fill your spot, we will be happy to apply your payment in full to another retreat, or offer a 50% refund.

Facilitators need to reach a threshold number of registrants by March 30, 2020, or unfortunately they will need to cancel the retreat given the costs of the castle, dining, transportation and programming, if that threshold isn’t reached by then. So please do tell your friends and spread the word about this amazing retreat! Facilitators are not responsible for expenses incurred by trip members in the event the retreat is cancelled (e.g., non-refundable airfare, visa and passport fees, etc.). We also reserve the right to cancel the retreat for other reasons, including logistical problems that may impede the retreat’s going forward. In such case, we will provide a full refund of your payment, which shall release the Facilitators from any further liability. All retreat participants are highly encouraged to buy travel insurance for their protection.

If you have any questions regarding the content of the retreat, or other details, please contact us at calminthecastle@gmail.com. We’re happy to help in any way we can.
