Mindsight Seminars 2009-2010 Series

The Mindsight Seminars offer an educational immersion into the science of insight and empathy.  Building on the interdisciplinary view of the field called “Interpersonal Neurobiology,” these seminars, led by Dr. Dan Siegel, examine various aspects of the mind, the brain, and human relationships.  Through this process, we begin to define the nature of human experience and clarify the basic elements of mental health.  These seminars offer a new way of thinking about human development that can enhance your work with individuals, families and groups. Classes are focused on promoting insight and empathy—developing mindsight—to nurture well-being in ourselves and others.

Content and Format

The Mindsight seminars are designed for psychotherapists, but are attended by other professionals as well, such as educators, physicians, mindfulness practitioners, social workers, counselors and developmental specialists. The seminars are predicated on the view that for any psychotherapy to be effective, it must change the brain. The therapeutic relationship helps focus the flow of energy and information in a way that can activate the brain and actually lead to changes in how the mind functions. In seminar sessions we discuss how to focus the mind to change the brain toward a more integrated state. This is a didactic, lecture-format group, during which Dan teaches new material to the group, and members ask questions. This is not a process group.

Each of the five groups has a slightly different format and agenda, which they set with Dan at the beginning of the year. That agenda is flexible and might change from month to month, depending upon the interests and needs of each group’s members and new information or ideas Dan may bring in from recent books, the latest research or outside seminars.
